Leeds, 2012. A retired detective proud of thirty years without a case overturned is handed the sealed master tape of a 1989 murder confession he countersigned and never heard. The tape runs twenty minutes longer than the transcript, and to clear the dead man who made it, he will have to give up his partner, the city's most generous patron, and his own good name.
